The City of Hernando, Mississippi, is seeking a qualified Director of Planning to lead its award-winning planning program. Reporting to the Mayor.

Position Description

The Director oversees:

  • The City's current and long-range planning efforts, including comprehensive planning, zoning administration, development review, land use policy implementation, and staff support for the Board of Aldermen, Planning Commission, and Historic Preservation Commission.
  • The position also supervises Planning Department staff, manages the departmental budget, and administers planning-related grants, 
  • Works closely with property owners, developers, consultants, and the public on planning and development issues.

Technical and Educational Experience

  • Qualified applicants must possess a bachelor's degree in Urban Planning or a closely related field (master's preferred) and at least eight years of progressively responsible municipal planning experience, including two years in a supervisory capacity.
  • AICP certification and Mississippi Certified Floodplain Manager certification are preferred or must be obtained within two years.
  • Strong communication, analytical, GIS, and planning skills are required.

Salary

Salary is commensurate with qualifications.
